Recollection

I unearth the remnant of my home, I drink it, I carefully bury its remains again. As the golden light cast onto the sleeping memories, these vessels of absence trigger my desire to see and hear the resonance.

Recollection is a piece about an inquiry into the idea of the Art of memory and the idea of memory attached to our homes. The Greeks invented the Art of memory; this art seeks to memorise through a technique of impressing ‘places’ and ‘images’ on memory. I am interested in the notion of how we select and carry certain memories from specific moments of our lives and what fragments of spatial information are stored in our memory. Over the course of time, certain aspects of the memory are discarded and altered by our minds. What feelings are contained within our memory vessels and will be be able to reconstruct and revisit this memory palace?

I think we live more through the intensity of our affects than through time or space, since we can only be in one place at a time and only live through an hour once.” Louise Bourgeois, 1951
